Rocche Costamagna – Rocche dell’Annunziata – 2011

Italy,
Piedmont,
Quite pale colour here, with a light ruby core. More tawny orange towards the rim. Quite fine nose. Already developed with some complexity. A mild spiciness is combined with sweet red fruit. There are some hints of chocolate praline here, with sweet cherry, red berry fruit and a floral hint. That is very good. I really like this bite. This is a wine with a lot of extract. There is plenty of tannins, but I really think that they are just about to integrate now. If you are used to this style you should really love it. If you are not used to it, it might appear a bit young. I think this is layered with that delicious sweet red fruit. Very fine spiciness. There is already a good deal of complexity. Well-balanced acidity that gives a lift as well. And a tremendously long finish. It really keeps lingering. It is certainly a wine that will become better gaining more complexity and roundness as we age it. I wouldn’t hesitate today with nice truffle risotto and steady amounts of this wine.
